    TRAFFIC TALK

    Great News!!  No Fence

Shellharbour Council at its December meeting accepted a recommendation of the Traffic Committee to reject the current proposal to install a median and pedestrian fence on Tongarra Road.

    The following recommendation was accepted

To install a 1.35m pedestrian refuge/median with existing 3.2m lane widths to be maintained.

Note:  This requires a kerb realignment and localised road widening on the southern side of Tongarra Road.  Estimate cost $440,000

This work is expected to be carried out in the new financial year.

    Pedestrian Crossing at Traffic Lights

The RTA has approved the installation of the last pedestrian crossing at the traffic lights on the corner of Terry St and Tongarra Road.  This crossing will be directly opposite the pub and is expected to be completed this financial year.

Right turn Eastbound from Tongarra Road into Terry Street

After some input from the Albion Park Chamber of Commerce and the community the RTA have changed the restriction on this intersection.

When you are travelling eastbound along Tongarra Road you will be able to make a Right Hand Turn into Terry Street between 6pm and 6am.  This is great for our local residents.

This will be put into place shortly.  Wait for the signs.

    Other News…

Shellharbour City Council accepted a three year forward program for capital works which will see $451,000 in funding for Albion Park Streetscape, $146,000 in 2006/7, $150,000 in 2007/8 and $155,000 in 2008/9.

The Albion Streetscape Committee is looking for expanded membership and we invite anyone who is interested in having a say in the development of the CBD to contact Pauline 42573399 or 0434 558 572.

At the December Chamber of Commerce Meeting our guest speaker was Steve Thorne, a highly respected international urban designer.  Steve’s presentation explained the benefits of effective streetscape planning and the positive outcomes that can be achieved.  Albion Park has many opportunities for growth with the high volume of traffic passing though the town.

The next Chamber of Commerce Meeting is at 7pm Tuesday February 14th at Albion Park RSL.  Come along and see what we have to offer.
