Boost to the Albion Park CBD

The NSW Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD) have announced that they will provide funding assistance to the Albion Park Chamber of Commerce to employ a Main Street Small Towns Co-ordinator.  This position is also assisted by the Federal Regional Partnership program.

“This will be a real hand up for this community” said Chamber president Megan Hutchison.

The money will assist us in developing some economic and tourist opportunities. “We have already identified some projects we want to see happen.” Said Megan

“We want to build on our community strategic plan and economic plan by actually making some of our plans a reality and economically and socially develop the town. We want to try and build and retain some of the economic wealth for Albion Park.” Said Megan

The co-ordinator will discuss with, support and resource, existing cafes/restaurants to provide outdoor dining on weekends and public holidays to attract weekend travellers to stop and dine in Albion Park.

An advertising campaign will be developed in consultation with local business. Local media, including TV commercials will be utilised more frequently. Tourism Shellharbour will be approached and the co-ordinator will work with them in establishing and maintaining information on their web site about what’s on in Albion Park.

This town of Albion Park is developing so fast. The local business sector needs to develop some economic opportunities in keeping with this strong increasing population. “This will surely be a fantastic opportunity to kick start this process” said Megan

The chamber is excited about the opportunity this brings in continuing to build a positive and productive relationship between business in Albion Park and council. “We are looking forward to developing a good productive working partnership with our council and council staff.” Said Megan

The chamber will progress the establishment of the Stockyard Mountain Track. The central ridge that runs north south from Albion Park to Stockyard Mountain provides some of the most spectacular views in the region. The co-ordinator will work with council staff to include the Stockyard Mountain Track in the future development plans of Albion Park.

The 2004 community calendar was a great success and we plan to produce another one for 2006 and 2007 along with a local annual business directory

We have many other activities and projects planned and look forward to this new and exciting project to begin.

We would like to thank the State Department of State and Regional Development and the Federal Governments Regional Partnerships program for their invaluable assistance the community of Albion Park
