  • Great News!!  No Fence

Shellharbour Council at its December meeting accepted a recommendation of the Traffic Committee to reject the current proposal to install a median and pedestrian fence on Tongarra Road.

    The following recommendation was accepted

To install a 1.35m pedestrian refuge/median with existing 3.2m lane widths to be maintained.

Note:  This requires a kerb realignment and localised road widening on the southern side of Tongarra Road.  Estimate cost $440,000

This work is expected to be carried out in the new financial year.

    Traffic Lights

The RTA has approved the installation of the last leg of traffic lights at the corner of Terry St and Tongarra Road.  These lights will be directly opposite the pub.  The work is expected to be completed this financial year.

Right turn Eastbound from Tongarra Road into Terry Street

After some input from the Albion Park Chamber of Commerce and the community the RTA have changed the restriction on this intersection to no right hand turn 6am to 6pm Mon-Fri.

This means that when you are eastbound along Tongarra Road you are able to make a Right Hand Turn into Terry Street between 6pm and 6am Mon-Fri and over the weekend.  This is great news for our local residents.

    Other News…

  • October 2005..

  • On October 19, Shellharbour Council and the RTA announced plans for a pedestrian fence and median strip along Tongarra Rd. The planned fence will run approximately 200m from Russell Street to Terry Street.

Although news of a median strip was no surprise, the announcement of the pedestrian fence has come as a complete shock to local businesses and the community.

The Albion Park Chamber of Commerce has met with both Shellharbour Council and the RTA over traffic issues along Tongarra Rd and have also submitted an objection letter to the Council.

The Albion Park Chamber of Commerce is committed to a "Pedestrian-Friendly" CBD in Albion Park.
